Critical Edition of the Śāstrārambha Section of Bhatta Jayanta's Nyāyamañjarī (forthcoming): Summary
The present article consists of a short introduction together with bibliographical information and a critical edition, typed in Devanāgarī font, of the opening section of the Nyāyamañjarī, the magnum opus of the ninth-century Kashmirian scholar, Bhatta Jayanta. The text of the entire Nyāyamañjarī has been edited several times, but there is still room for improvement. In the present edition I consulted two published editions and six manuscripts: one is written in Devanāgarī; one in Kashmirian Devanāgarī; three in Śāradā; and one in Malayalam script. I recorded in the apparatus variant readings found in the previous editions and the manuscripts, as well as parallel or relevant passages found in the works of the same author, and antecedent or subsequent works of other authors. I also segmented, with appropriate captions in Sanskrit, the text into sections, subsections and so on, so that readers can easily see the structure of the text and the author's intention behind it.
